TB HIV COINFECTED PATIENTS

ANTI-TB DRUG RESISTANCE PATTERN ON TB-HIV COINFECTED PATIENTS :

1/3 of the world population infected with T.B. 8.5 million new cases occur every year. 1 million people died world wide of T.B.

In 2001, 20 million HIV infected people also coinfected with m.tuberculosis of these

  • 70% in subsaharan africa
  • 22% in asia
  • 8% in latin america and carebean

HIV is the most powerful factor known to increase the risk of T.B. HIV infected person as a 10 times incerease risk of developing T.B. In India 3-4 million patient have HIV and T.B. dual infection. Total 70 sputum sample of HIV-T.B. positive patients were studies.

Among HIV was confirmed by elisa method with patiens personal consent and tuberculosis is confirmed by clinical symtoms, radiology and sputum microscopy. 3 consecutive early morning sputum sample are collected, make a smear and stain with ZNCF method and reporting the smear by RNTCP gradation.

Discussion of microscopical examination of AFB in sputum specimen. The result shows 70 sputum sample, 19(27.60%) are direct smear positive, 22(31.42%) are concentrated smear positive, 23(32.85%) sample are culture positive and 2(2.85%) are contaminated.
